Home break-in could lead to decade in prison
A local man could be facing a decade behind bars after allegedly breaking into his girlfriend’s home.
The grand jury has indicted Robert L. Bradley, 39, whose court-listed address is the Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg, charging him with one count of aggravated burglary and two counts of assault stemming from an incident on June 8.
Union County Prosecutor Dave Phillips said Bradley allegedly went through a second-story window into the bedroom of his girlfriend’s home. Bradley’s girlfriend and his roommate were in the bedroom.
“It appears he took umbridge that they were together,” said Phillips.
The prosecutor said the confrontation turned physical. According to court documents, the girlfriend suffered bruising to her arm and face while the roommate had eye and facial injuries.
If convicted on all charges, Bradley could face as many as 11 years in prison.
Bradley is not the only local man facing felony charges for allegedly assaulting a girlfriend. The grand jury has also indicted John L. Sprague and Joshua Patrick Davis on unconnected charges.
Davis, 26, whose court-listed address is the Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg, is charged with one count each of robbery and domestic violence.
Phillips said Davis was riding in a car May 29 while his girlfriend was driving.
Assistant Union County Prosecutor Melissa Chase said the woman was, “six or seven months pregnant” at the time.
The couple began to argue about money.
“He went to grab her purse, which was on her lap,” Chase said. “They struggled for the purse.”
The assistant prosecutor said the purse strap broke and Davis got the purse. She said he then allegedly hit the woman.
“He struck her on the right side of the stomach during their altercation,” Chase said.
She said it appears the baby has not suffered any permanent damage.
While domestic violence is usually charged as a misdemeanor on the first offense, Chase said that because the woman was pregnant, the allegation becomes a felony.
If convicted on all charges, Davis could face as many as six years in prison.
Sprague, 35, of 101 Rose St., Magnetic Springs, is charged with one count of felonious assault. Phillips said on May 18, Sprague and his girlfriend, who is the mother of his children, were arguing.
“She said he spit on her,” said Phillips. “It’s not really clear whether it was intention or whether it was just spit flying from his mouth.”
Either way, Phillips said the woman allegedly slapped Sprague.
“He took a coffee mug and allegedly smacked her in the face and that caused a laceration that went all the way through her mouth,” Chase said.
If convicted, Sprague could face as many as eight years in prison.
