Local residents gathered at Marysville High School, on Thursday evening to be entertained by a classical comedy team from Italy – “Duo.”
Brad Repp is a famous world-renown violinist and Aldo Gentileschi is a pianist/actor. Together they entertain their audiences with theatrical humor and pop culture.
The audience was constantly in laughter over the antics of Aldo Gentileschi, while Brad Repp played the straight man. For instance, when the violinist played a very slow moving musical piece, the pianist/actor fell off the piano bench to much laughter.
Gentileschi is a very versatile instrumentalist, who played the piano, accordion, tambourine and the xylophone throughout the program. Amazingly, he played the accordion and the piano at the same time. The two men were able to keep the audience laughing while they performed classical music on their instruments.
They played several well- known musical pieces familiar to the audience. They played “It Ain’t Necessarily So” by George Gershwin from Porgy and Bess in different tempos.
When they played “Four Seasons” the audience started clapping to the tune. Attendees were clapping, whistling and laughing throughout the evening.
The duo completed its program with a very serious violin solo accompanied by the pianist, who kept up the comedic act, pausing to take a bow and then continuing playing the piano because the violinist kept playing. At the end of the program Gentileschi played the xylophone to the plucking of the violin and on the last note the lights went out. This was fitting ending to a very entertaining evening program.
UCCCA’s next concert will be at Bunsold Middle School on Tuesday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. “Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes” will be featured.
