Police were contacted Thursday after a loadedhandgun was found in the street of a residential area.
According to police reports, at about 11:02 a.m., Thursday, police received a call from the 800 block of West Fifth Street. The caller said she found a gun, laying in the street. When police arrived, they found a loaded .38-caliber revolver.
Marysville Division of Police Deputy Chief Tony Brooks said investigators talked to residents.
“Everyone denied it being theirs,” Brooks said.
He said the gun does not appear to be stolen.
“It would be total speculation at this point to say how it got there,” Brooks said.
He said the gun was secured and taken into evidence.
Brooks said that someone who finds a gun should do what’s best, “depending on the facts and the circumstances.”
The deputy chief said that in an ideal scenario, the finder would contact police and stay with the gun but not move it.
“The best thing to do is leave it lay if you can,” Brooks said.
He said sometimes that is not an option.
“If it is in a spot where the best thing to do is move the gun, then that is the best thing to do,” Brooks said. “But I would never tell anyone should pick up a gun, depending on their comfort level with guns.”
