Richwood Council is switching gears, now considering demolishing the Opera House. At the regular meeting on Monday, council reached the conclusion that if they are not going to replace the lost truss, then they won’t be able to put the building up for bid as had been previously discussed. The plan would still involve saving the clock tower portion for further use, however. Council member Donald Ridgeway, who is also on the Opera House Committee, brought in the committee’s proposal. The North Union School Board approved an increase in the price of school lunches. At the regular meeting on Monday, the board of education approved an increase in breakfast and lunch prices by $0.25 for the 2024-2025 school year. Treasurer Scott Maruniak said they had previously received an audit from the state that the food service department had too much money and a spending plan was put together to spend down those reserves. “That is no longer the case,” Maruniak said. “With the increases in food costs, unfortunately it dramatically went through our funds.” He said the federal government is…

The Farmers Market makes its grand opening Thursday at Richwood Park. At the regular city council meeting on Monday, Kelly Jerew said there will be live music as well as free food on opening day, located at the market’s new home: shelter house one at the park. “(From) 4-7 p.m. will be free food, free hotdogs, chips (and) water. After several conversations with residents, council members and others, the Richwood Opera House Committee is recommending putting the building up for sale. Council members discussed the decision at Tuesday’s meeting but no decisions have been made. A group of students is shining a light on the availability of drug and alcohol-related products in Union County. At the regular North Union School Board meeting, the Union County Drug Free Coalition played a video presentation for the board from the Teen Prevention Leadership Academy. Some improvements are coming to the Union County Airport, after its board recently approved two construction projects. At the regular monthly board meeting on Tuesday, airport authority members approved a contract with Sweet Meadow Farm Drainage for turf runway improvements, which includes relocating the turf runway further south, the installation of a new LED lighted windcone and fertilization. The total cost for this work comes to $320,443. The board approved a $97,566 contract with Woolpert Consultants for project administrative services to oversee the work.
